Welcome meet Kim

I love all animals. I grew up in California and have worked with animals ever since I can remember. As a child I used to catch butterflies, lizards and other creatures including feral cats. I grew up always around animals and have a special connection with them. I have been a Veterinary Assistant for 20 years and have studied and helped animals even longer. I want to bring awareness and understanding to our pets needs to be able to improve both their lives as well as ours. I currently have 2 cats of my own Marcus Aurelius and Suja Princess Pixie Biscuits as well as my best friend Alora Banana Sunset a Catahoula mix.

Dental Hygiene care

Teeth brushing is recommended daily to prevent dental disease, 3 times weekly will help maintain always using a pet safe enzymatic flavored toothpaste.  You can also use water additives and safe dental chews or oral flushes depending on conditions in your pet's mouth. Sometimes life gets away from us or our schedule is too busy or not even sure where to start or how to start, that's what I'm here for.

Anal Gland care

How often should this be done? There is not a specific answer for this in general. Typically the expression is only needed when the pet is showing symptoms of irritation such at chewing, scooting, odor, leakage, and more. Some pets require this on a regular basis as frequently as monthly or even twice a year.  Glandex is a probiotic that may help support anal gland health and function.

Training / Enrichment

Enrichment : improving the social, environmental  and coping skills that a pet has with each interaction.  Requirements for living situations such as apartment living or not having a yard can make challenges that we don't expect or understand with our pets.

Training : to help the owners and pets to understand each others requests and needs. Break down barriers from previous trauma or bad behavior and help give the owner and pet the tools to succeed. This includes leash training, trick training, behavioral, nervous dog training.

When should I have my dogs nails trimmed?

I recommend usually every 4 to 8 weeks.  It really depends on the breed, age, previous injuries, terrain that they are on, level of activity and medical conditions. Nails that are too long can over time cause arthritic / bony changes to the structure of the paw.

When should I have my cats nails trimmed?

I recommend cats nails to be trimmed monthly to prevent furniture scratching/damage. Bi-monthly for maintenance trimming. Some cats use the scratching post and only need trimming every 2-4 months. Cat nails can grow thick and not shed layers to keep a sharp point. This can put the cat at risk of an ingrown nail. An ingrown nail is extremely painful and can become infected and cause an unexpected visit to the veterinarian. Usually indoor cats and older cats need assistance with nail maintenance, this can be overlooked easily.
